Why work here

Job satisfaction

The OFT serves the public good by working to bring about competitive markets, by thwarting unfair trading practices, and by empowering consumers.

As a result, consumers benefit from improved value, choice and quality in products and services, and are much less likely to encounter problems. Good businesses gain too; they are protected from cartels, abusive monopolies and inappropriate regulations, and can reap the rewards of delivering what their customers want. On a wider scale, the whole UK economy benefits from our work.

By joining the OFT, you will be contributing to this important mission.

Variety and opportunity

The OFT works in all sectors of the economy and uses a wide range of powers and legal instruments. For the most part, we operate in multi-disciplinary project and enforcement teams. The opportunity to gain exposure to our broad span of activities is one of the main draws of a career here.

At any one time, you will be working on at least two major programmes of work. You may also follow in the footsteps of many of our staff who have successfully moved around the OFT to build their careers.

Excellence

The OFT is an international leader in many aspects of consumer and competition policy and enforcement. We frequently break new ground with our market studies, the way we deal with anything from price-fixing cartels to mass-marketed scams, our partnership with other bodies, and our evaluation of our impact. At the OFT, you will be part of this high-quality, innovative work.
